We love the idea of looking for maid-of-honor dresses that really stand out from the rest of the bridal party. After all, your maid of honor deserves an elevated status. How to pick MOH dresses that fit with your bridesmaid dresses but still communicate her VIP role? You could have her simply wear a unique piece of jewelry, but we think dresses for maid of honor that are decidedly different are the best way to have her stand out. From what the MOH should wear to creative tips for the taking, here’s our guide on how to dress the maid of honor!
1. Have her wear a different neckline.
Changing up the neckline on your maid of honor is such an easy way to give her a little standout feature that’s still subtle enough for even a classic wedding. Have two maids of honor? Consider mixing & matching MOH dresses with two different necklines and then coordinating fabrics and colors with the rest of the bridal party dresses.
2. Opt for a different color than the rest.
Choose a shade that’s slightly lighter or darker than the design your bridal party is planning to wear to give her standout status. If you really want her dress to pop from the rest, go for something in a complementary or accent shade. For example if everyone is wearing pink, have her look the part in a gold or barely there nude color.
3. Choose the same bridesmaid dress but add sleeves (or vice versa!).
This idea is especially perfect if you’re going to have a wedding dress with sleeves. In that case, you would have your maid of honor wear sleeves while everyone else wears strapless. It’ll help her stand out and create cohesion between your two dresses. (Read: photo op!) Need ideas? 4. Add some sparkle.
Without taking too much of a departure from your other bridesmaid dresses, you could find a dress design that’s similar but with added sparkle. Look for MOH dresses with light or allover beading or even sequins. (We love this navy beaded dress by Kleinfeld Bridal Party!) Take a subtler route by having her wear a dress with just a hit of sparkle at the waist like this beaded waist bridesmaid dress by Kleinfeld Bridal Party.
5. Have her change up her look at the reception!
You could easily do this for your entire bridal party but we especially love it as a way to have your maid of honor stand out. If she’s wearing a long dresses for the reception, have her change into a short one. Or, have her wear a convertible bridesmaid dress and then change the sleeves or neckline for the after-party.
